How to Make Kava

General Knowledge

We sell a few different types of kava which require different preperations, but don't be scared! We'll guide you through it. First, a few quick points:

    • A drink of kava is quickly gulped in 4-6 ounce “shells” every 20 to 30 minutes until the drinker is comfortable.
    • Kava should be enjoyed on an empty stomach. 3-4 hours of fasting from food is the general rule of thumb.
    • Kava tastes the best when cold. Keep a chaser like juice around if you hate the taste.
    • A larger amount of kava (like a bowl or a big cup) needs to be stirred or shaken prior to pouring a shell. The bits that settle at the bottom contain many kavalactones (which you want to drink!)

INSTANT & MICRONIZED KAVA

For micronized or instant kava, all you'll have to do is mix 1/2 tablespoon of kava per 4-6 ounces of water. Super easy, and super effective.

MEDIUM GRIND KAVA

The first step is to take the included Cactus Kava strainer and throw the appropriate amount of kava inside. For one "shell", use two tablespoons of kava to every 4-6 ounces of water.

knead kavaNow, knead the kava in the bag and water for 5-10 minutes, or until it screams at you. If it doesn't scream, that's totally okay.

If you have time, chill your kava in the fridge for a little bit. It'll be much easier to drink cold.
